Match Report
St John the Baptist School Boys-Year 9 vs  District 10 a side Boys Rugby Tournament
On: Monday, 10 Oct 2022
Venue: Away

The year 9's had their first competition of the year.

After having a couple of training sessions to help them prepare the year 9's headed over to Collingwood in good spirits. The boys played 4 games in the tournament, winning 2 and losing 2 but with the possibility of future matches.

GAME 1 v Tomlinscote (Lost 10-0)

Against probably the toughest opposition on the day who were physically much bigger, a slow start allowed Tomlinscote to get an early break away try. Some superb defence stopped Tomlinscote from scoring many more but we were unable to build any sustained pressure to breach the try line.

GAME 2 v Chertsey High (Won 15-10)

After warming up by playing probably the strongest team at the tournament we then played Chertsey High who also had some players the size of year 11's playing for them. A strong start from SJB with lots of pressure and penalties going our way we took the lead with a try from Max and two from Dylan. Some late pressure CH meant that they reduced the score to 3 tries to 2.

GAME 3 v Collingwood (Won 20-0)

Once again we came up against another team with some boys who were bigger than your average year 9 student. However, some clever play using the ball well and good running and supporting lines meant that we scored four tries through Max (x3) and Joe (x1).

GAME 4 v Salesian (Lost 10-5)

Final game of the tournament was against Salesian who were boasting some more bigger than average year 9's, so once again the boys rose to the challenge and met them physically. In a tight game we narrowly lost 2 tries to 1 but the highlight was earning a penalty on our own try line in the last play of the game and then playing phase after phase to get to their try line but an unfortunate knock on meant that the game was ended.

Overall a very good tournament with lots of positives to take away and the boys can be pleased with their hard work and effort.
