Match Report
St John the Baptist School Boys-Year 9 vs  Chobham RFC Schools Rugby Festival
On: Tuesday, 22 Nov 2022
Venue: Away

The weather gods were on our side as we arrived at Chobham RFC, the home of many the boys.

Five schools turned up from a possible seven, which meant we had the first game off, which enabled us to have a longer warm up.

Please see match report from Joe Callow below;

Game 1 - Collingwood:
Our first match-up of the tournament brought us up against Collingwood. After some inspiring words from the captain and a lot of pre-game preparation, we were ready and raring to go. It was a very strong start from our SJB team as there were standout performances from Cavenham, Fogarty and Vuurboom in a 6-0 demolition job. This was a good sign of things to come from the team.

Game 2 - Salesian:
The next game of the tournament, we came up against Salesian and we were out for revenge as in the last tournament we just lost to them and we were fresh with confidence after our overwhelming victory versus Collingwood. It was a strong start from us with a very early try from Fogarty with a superb line break. There was some robust defence throughout the rest of the game from both teams and we managed to see out the win.

Game 3 - Chertsey High:
When we moved on to the next game we felt like we could conquer anyone and we showed that with an early try from Watt. We then swiftly conceded our first try of the evening and there was some uneasy play for a while before a sudden breakthrough from SJB and we then managed to stay secure in defence for the remaining time of the game.

Game 4 - Charters:
The final game of the tournament saw our team brimming with excitement and belief which we put to effect with a rampant display with 3 tries from Watt, and one each from Callow, Vuurboom, Cunningham, Wilson and Simpson in an all-round emphatic performance to cap off a great 4 games with a dominating 8-1 annihilation. Overall, there was some great rugby on display and a nice blend of power, passing and kicking.
